The Causes
The American Cancer Society
estimates that 21,810 malignant tumors of the brain or spinal
cord will be diagnosed during 2008 in the United States. Approximately
13,070 people will die from these malignant tumors. This type
of cancer accounts for approximately 1.3% of all cancers but
is responsible for 2.2% of all cancer-related deaths. Brain Cancer is an area of cancer research that has resisted
significant advancement for some time.
Not included in these numbers is the impact on the countless
number of families and friends of those impacted by this disease.
